NB Power is investigating a major outage that has affected a significant portion of Southeast New Brunswick. Moncton, Riverview, Dieppe, Shediac have all been in the dark since 9:00 PM. NBPower on their twitter feed announced few details but did post that it was caused by a fallen tree.
Many people posting to Twitter expressed their doubts that one fallen tree could have caused an outage affecting 50,000 homes over a large area affecting many communities.
RCMP announced they are investigating suspected vandalism as the cause of the power outage. High power transmission lines where hit by a falling tree that was intentionally cut by a chainsaw. RCMP are asking the public to notify them of any suspected activity near the high power line located between the McLaughlin Ave. and the Trans-Canada Highway.
